Software Engineer Intern (MERN)

About the Role

We're looking for a curious, self-driven Software Engineer Intern to work alongside the core team building our CBAM compliance platform. This isn't a fetch-coffee, watch-from-the-sidelines internship. You'll write code that ships, work on real features that real clients use, and sit close enough to the founders and engineers to see how product and technical decisions actually get made. You'll be given problems, not just tickets — and the room to figure them out. We don't expect you to know everything walking in. We do expect you to dig in, read the docs, try things, get stuck, and find your way through. The engineers around you are here to unblock you and help you grow, not to hand you every answer. If you're the kind of person who takes a topic apart to understand how it really works, who'd rather read the source than guess, and who enjoys the early-stage mess where things aren't fully defined yet — you'll feel at home here. This is a fully remote internship, open to students based in Egypt.

Responsibilities

• Work across the full stack — MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js — on real, shippable features
• Take a feature or fix from "here's the problem" to "it's live," with support from the team
• Read and navigate an unfamiliar, evolving codebase, and contribute to it with care
• Use AI coding tools as a multiplier to move faster and learn faster — while still understanding what your code does and why
• Ask good questions, flag what doesn't make sense, and share what you're learning
• Help investigate and resolve real issues, getting a first-hand look at what running a live product actually involves

Requirements

• A student working toward a Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering degree — final or penultimate year is ideal, but not a strict requirement. If you're earlier in your studies and the rest of this resonates, we'd still love to hear from you
• Comfortable reading documentation and figuring things out independently — you treat being stuck as a puzzle, not a dead end
• A deep-diver and out-of-the-box thinker — you go past the surface of a topic and aren't satisfied with "it works, I'm not sure why"
• Working familiarity with at least part of the MERN stack, or the kind of general programming foundation that makes picking it up quick
• A genuine habit of building, breaking, and learning
• A strong plus (not required): contributions to open-source projects, meaningful extracurriculars (clubs, competitions, hackathons, teaching, communities), or personal projects you've taken seriously and can talk about
• On grades: academic achievement is a nice signal, but it's not what we're optimising for. We care far more about how you think, what you've built, and how you approach a problem you've never seen before than about your exact GPA
